Dear Families,
We want to share some information about a student walkout planned for February 18th, from 11:30 AM to 12:40 PM. Student leaders have been partners in this process, proactively keeping our administration aware of their plans. They have shared that they are protesting recent federal actions affecting our community in Chicago and the West Lawn neighborhood. Our students will also join peers from other neighborhood schools participating in this action.
Our main goal is to work together to keep every student safe. We want to be clear about the plan so we can support our students’ well-being during this time.
What to Expect:
- Checking In/Out: Students will use their IDs to check out at the door and must check back in when they return. We will notify you if your child does not return to school.
- Safety Support: Support from Police District 8 will be provided. Additionally, our staff—including our administration team—will be stationed along the route on W 63rd St and S Pulaski Rd.
- The Route: Students plan to stay at 63rd and Pulaski for 25 minutes before walking the designated route.
We encourage you to discuss these events with your child. We believe it is important for your family to decide whether your student should participate. Per district policy, we cannot prevent students from leaving the building. We value our partnership with you as we navigate these events together.

Queremos compartir información sobre una manifestación estudiantil ("walkout") programada para el 18 de febrero, de 11:30 AM a 12:40 PM. Los líderes estudiantiles han colaborado con nosotros, manteniendo a la administración informada sobre sus planes de manera proactiva. Ellos nos han compartido que el motivo de su protesta son las recientes acciones federales que afectan a nuestra comunidad en Chicago y al vecindario de West Lawn. Nuestros estudiantes se unirán con jóvenes de otras escuelas locales que también participarán en esta acción.
Nuestra meta principal es trabajar juntos para que cada estudiante esté seguro. Queremos ser claros sobre el plan para apoyar el bienestar de nuestros estudiantes durante este tiempo.
Lo que debe saber:
- Entrada y Salida: Los estudiantes usarán su identificación para registrar su salida y deberán registrarse nuevamente al regresar. Les notificaremos si su hijo(a) no regresa a la escuela.
- Apoyo de Seguridad: Se contará con el apoyo del Distrito Policial 8. Además, nuestro personal—incluyendo al equipo administrativo—estará ubicado a lo largo de la ruta en W 63rd St y S Pulaski Rd.
- La Ruta: Los estudiantes planean permanecer en la esquina de la 63rd y Pulaski por 25 minutos antes de recorrer la ruta designada.
Les sugerimos platicar con sus hijos sobre estos eventos. Creemos que es importante que ustedes decidan, como familia, si su estudiante debe participar o no. Por política del distrito, no podemos impedir que los estudiantes salgan del edificio. Valoramos mucho la confianza y la colaboración que tenemos con ustedes para guiar a nuestros jóvenes en estos momentos
