Advanced Algebra (a.k.a. Algebra II) is a pre-calculus course that stresses algebra skills. The purpose of this course is to prepare students for college and beyond by building the algebra skills that are required for calculus. Included in the course of study are real numbers, function and graphs, polynomials and rational functions, exponential and logarithmic functions, roots of polynomial equations, optimization, sequences and series, conic sections, systems of equations, and limits. In Algebra II, you will learn to use new models and methods to think about problems as well as solve them. You will be developing powerful mathematical tools and learning new ways of thinking about and investigating situations. You will be making connections, discovering relationships, figuring out what strategies can be used to solve problems, and explaining your thinking. Learning to think in these ways and communicate about your thinking is useful in mathematical contexts, other subjects in school, and situations outside the classroom. The mathematics you have learned in the past will be valuable for learning in this course. That work, and what you learn in this course, will prepare you for future courses and many potential career paths. Trigonometry, on the other hand, is a branch of mathematics that studies relationships involving lengths and angles of triangles. In addition to the basic trigonometric functions introduced in Geometry, we will also expand on the usages of sine, cosine, and tangent as well as explore the relationships with other trigonometry functions and how to apply them to the real world.

We are feeling brave this new year! So even though Khan Academy was voted one of the least favorite activity from the survey the other day, I seriously feel that it is simply because of how it has been assigned to us in the past (too many mastery points a week, too complicated for the unit, too many problems, etc.) and it can in fact be a wonderful resource for all of you! Let's get to it, shall we?
Due:
Happy New Year, everyone!
I hope you all had a wonderful and well-rested winter break! To start off this new year, please complete the following survey as honestly and accurately as possible, and I will take everything you share under advisement. I may also ask you during class to share some of your responses, so please keep that in mind as you complete this. Thank you!

As promised, here is the Excel/Google Slide template that we created together to help organize all our amounts and values. Please change the zoom view to 75%, then sum up the amounts in each subcategory and enter them into the corresponding cells in the spreadsheet, and then it will automatically create a Pie Chart and Bar Graph from the data you entered:
Due:
Please click on the following "live participation" link to complete the activity together with us during class. As always, let us know if you are experiencing any technical difficulties by typing into the Google Meet chat or by turning on your mic to let us know verbally. We will try to help you as best we can, as well as allow for more time if necessary.
There will also be an unlock "student-paced" link available after our collaborative class activity is over, in case you were not able to complete it during class or simply needed more time to process & practice the material.

Today, we will first confirm that everyone has indeed been correctly added to the class on Khan Academy. If that has been set up correctly, you should see Mr. Ng under your Teachers tab, as well as SY20-21 Pr7 Adv Alg under the My Stuff tab on the left. Please select "YES" to share your SAT Data with Mr. Ng as your Math coach!
Secondly, we will make sure that College Board has been connected to your account, and that your account is NOT restricted by the "13 years or under" limitations. If you see a "Diagnostic Quiz" or "Quiz 1 - Math (no calculator)" recommendation under the SAT Practice tab or Dashboard Current Skill Levels section, then this is a good sign that you have NOT been connected to College Board yet. Please click on Connect to College Board and follow the steps to log in. The easiest way to fix your "under 13 years old" birthday is to send me a message or comment below and I can fix your birthday for you.
Finally, please complete the first recommended "Start Task" under the Practice Math tab, as well as the short assignments that we completed together in class today.
