Hubbard is here because they love being here and they're proud to be here and they want to make sure that you can get the best education possible everyone is very helpful I'm proud of the fact that we re school that is fully staffed that means that every single class has teachers and people waiting which are social work full-time saline staff several of the programs today and the options that you have if you do decide to to become a part of this Hubbard family I do want to let you know too that I know that this is very different typically today we have a school open house and everyone is in the building and you're walking around and we do a big Thanksgiving dinner for everyone that volunteers and all of my teachers and students that are there and I'm actually cooking in the kitchen with my admin and you can smell the turkey and it is all different for us we miss our students in the building we miss the interaction but we know we know that if we keep doing what's right and we will be able to come back to that and we want to make sure that you can have the best experience possible awesome welcome hopefully you decide to make Hubbard High School your home for the next four years and if you have any questions at the end week will definitely be able to answer any of them for you so thank you so much to everyone that is here and enjoy the presentation Chris Brown I'm just going to quickly say something in Spanish who started by my switch on Winchester and in turn meaning listen to Yoda album espanol definitely romantic. That's it thank you okay good morning as I introduce myself before I misses Brown and I'm the Ivy and University Scholars coordinator and just following up with Miss altamirano Ted Hubbard is a medium-sized family atmosphere school and that's one of the biggest benefits it's a great neighborhood school with lots of great programs I know students have a lot of choices these days and that's great some students want to take a drink downtown or go to Lane Tech or Whitney Young or Walter Payton and those are great options but we're here to tell you parents and that there are some selected programs right here at your neighborhood School go to the next slide then so we have about 1,700 students and that's really the perfect size because we're big enough to have a full array of programs and sports but we're small enough for everyone kind of knows each other I've been at Hubbard since 2001 and I have lots of siblings and cousins and family members who comes through the IB program or university Scholars or CTE and you can just walk down the hall and our Administration team and the teachers and say hi to practically every student because we do get to know everyone so we've had International Baccalaureate since 1998 or one of the oldest programs in the city and it is a internationally-known program colleges recognize IB on your transcript and they recognize that you are up for the challenge of college and then later on you'll hear also we have CTE careers and education we have AP classes dual-credit one goal we have of course the JROTC program National award-winning we just have a ton of sports for both boys and girls and again the size helps because you're not come meeting with a hundred students to get on the soccer team or the volleyball team if you go to practice and you show effort you can be on the team and that's really a good benefit of a medium sized High School mr. Rodriguez talk about the clubs in extracurriculars and then for parents I know there's some parents out there we have a very active parent group The bilingual action Community the pack committee we have a very active LS and they've been meeting over zoom and we've had really great participation thanks Marvin so what is i b i b is a program where you are in a cohort freshman sophomore year you're in was called pre-ib so you are with about 60 students and you're in all honors classes freshman and sophomore year you also have the chance to talk in AP government class in freshman year and then AP US History Class sophomore year we also offer an honors writing seminar class freshman year to really kind of help students with their writing skills a benefit is your your enemy dmci school but you're part of a cohort so we're like a another little family was in a bigger family you with other motivated students that you can see in class and your teacher all know each other and plan activities we usually if we're in the building are going on a field trip to the museum to the Pilsen mural walk did the college's I'm sore try to do some of virtually a little different but next fall we hope to be back in the building to do those special activities so then Junior and Senior year you're taking What's called the IB courses and these are to your core will you have the same teacher with as a lot of benefits they get to know you they can help you with your skills they know maybe what you need to work on what you can excel at and you have opportunities do this college credit and it's goes over the two years you're you're not just taking one test at the end of the year you have maybe a speaking test and Sao project and it all helps you earn this ivy for college it's inquiry-based so you're doing lots of projects I know students like to work together so we really have you working in teams a lot and really kind of driving safely and chain for me dad and learning things without just a teacher lecturing at you are students learned lots of college credit and lots of scholarships are IB Program like I said it's been around for the second oldest in the city and we have a really high diploma rate and I'll explain that what that means so we encourage all of our IB student to do the full diploma meaning they're taking 7 IB classes junior senior year and I be really is trying to develop you as a balanced student so we also encourage you to do activities are IVs 2D are always in sports and they loved being the volleyball team the soccer team football they're very active in the building there in a lot of clubs and Leadership roles so we actually that is called task creativity activity and service so we encourage our students to do the full diploma program so last year we had 83% bar students earn the diploma 66% in 2019 to 50% in 2018 those are really great statistics if you look at IB programs around the the city but what's most important is earning the college credit so all of our students last year and at least one for which is enough to get college credit in a class and most of them had more than a bob in three or more classes so a lot of them will get like 12 credits 16 credits to different universities around Chicago and around the United States thank you some of our activities weave every year our seniors plan on Haunted House Miss altamirano started it about 5 years ago so it's become a great tradition and we open it up to the community is a great service project the students use their creative play on their costumes and we we just have a great night scaring all the people who come to the haunted house we've also taken trips to the international youth hostel ideas really looking to expose students to a global world so your classes will have you reading novels that were maybe written originally in French or German or Spanish and you're learning about cultures in your history class in your English class in your Spanish class and we always have a really fun picnic at the end of the year that was dumped the teacher day I were some Brave teachers agreed agreed to get dumped by the students okay so moving on if you noticed and go CPS we have another selected program is called University Scholars this is a little bit different in that students have more flexibility maybe they don't want to take 6 honors classes as a freshman they want to start with three or four and maybe they want to try it out and then sophomore year they could join Ivy or they could move on to what health careers and Technical education or maybe they just want to be on the 8th or they're just taking one or to a higher level classes and that's pray to that works out really well for a lot of our students so just to kind of explain Ivy is a whole program where you're taking all IB class junior senior year I'm the corn are I'm helping you through the program you have a ib counselor CTE demetriou will explain in a bit when you're also taking asset number glasses but then you could also if your University Scholars move on and just take AP classes maybe one you know AP Spanish or AP English class okay so I will Segway going to call do in the meantime go to the next one which is fine arts Ed Sheeran quatrain Campania and I am a department chair this year of the fine and visual arts program and I would just like to brag about our wonderful Department of it because have some of the finest in the city and our students sore invisible and musical arts or fine arts program options for you if you like to draw paint do computer graphic art this is the department for you you'll have options to take art one and if you like to continue with this are you can do Studio or aprc do you have advanced placement opportunities and the IB program has a two-year art curriculum so you have many options to express yourself through Visual Arts our athletic director here mr. Bolger has one of our our art Department of Visual Arts teachers and we have some of the greatest of teachers a guiding you through this creative Outlet we also have some Partnerships through the city and Department as well I know he's done a lot with the American Academy of Art in the past and you'll have many opportunities to learn about continuing art education in the future fine arts program in Visual Arts do you want me to go to the music department as well okay and then we also have a fabulous performing arts program like I said earlier I am the director of choirs at Hubbard High School and I come to teaching from a performance background so I pull a many connect with many of my friends in the city and we have many part and we sing everywhere we have beginning chorus we have been immediate chorus and we also have an honor chorus program where you can receive honors credit so I do have stood to choose choir for 3 and 4 years we have many partnership throughout the city with professional organizations we travelled in the past many places we sing all over the city and we jumped in recording projects in the past as well so you have many opportunities to grow as a singer and a choral singer so that I shared here with you all thank you OK Google but we hope you will consider play as well as we also have an excellent Band program have many options for you to play previous experience we also have beginning band intermediate an advanced Dan where you can also receive honor credit just like the choir and we also have an after-school ban the ban also does many things throughout the city last outside performances and field trips just like the choir connections with different organizations and universities in the city so there are opportunities for you to thrive and learn and grow and experience all kinds of music so we hope he will consider the band as well so I think there's a video to play Marvin for the band yeah I need to join band do you hate me or do you hate me Tori been doing band doing band and have a beautiful day join band because it is a funny change and you get to learn how to play an instrument sister has joined band set up a book bag joined a band twin bed so we hope One of These Fine Arts program is for you we can't wait for you to join one of them and express yourself and be challenged and the best way so welcome to the Hubbard we hope we see you all in the I don't know in the fall and that's our hope thank you okay I'm is a Metro informed me that she's switch computer so she's going to resent her slides now Miss Mitchell I don't know where she went I guess I'll have to come back to her again sports okay giant CTE I'm so sorry about the technical difficulties as the best example of a teacher teach my students how to overcome the presidency be so I just started my my. Started my second computer can you hear me mister can you hear me hello yes I'm so sorry about it I'm so sorry so should I just go back to CT now all right okay I would like to briefly describe our wonderful City program public high school open Seattle City pathway which includes the fundamentals of it game programming and web development are we are teaching critical thinking problem-solving collaboration we would like to students to learn about each other car you to become college-ready they are exploring how do you send any marketable skills do a different job without internship from the industry which hands-on experience to be a graduation requirement at the same time students can get college credit for different occasions we open them we also have exploding computer science and advanced placement computer science principles program our students in 2013 many years ago developed computer science club this is a club develop back to the forest today I would lick the introduce the pathway fundamentals of it is a prerequisite for the gaming program and web development program the message is digital literacy transferable employee ability lock of texting excuse students are able to take a test which is that it's empty beacation exam in the ic3 area which is digital literacy area may you have next. after fundamentals of it we offer game programming class so students can choose between game programming and development this classes the WinCo object-oriented programming language has the most popular languages Kodi programming languages take Python and JavaScript so student again can they just have them at the end of the junior are they exempt from Microsoft. It's getting raped programming using Python and second-year which of the senior year is going to be another opportunity to set to take additional exam programming using JavaScript students Auto working with contractors and they are working with microwave and can program Jones again in web. Jumpman we are crazy Pages website this is the project approach students creating their own beautiful website provider with the skills to play design create maintain Pages by Suffocation we give them HTML and CSS messages web development which is and also both certification exam Peppa Pig school open operating education program we have two partners Genesys works and a lion those two partners are placing students in the internship in the Fortune 500 companies. I'm moving on do we have the JROTC program s all right good morning I'm Lieutenant Colonel Steve I'm the senior Army instructor for Hubbard High School I am proud to say this is my first year of high school and we currently have three other Sergeant positions that are filled to that are actively filled in that were in the process of filling right now first thing I want to tell you is that JROTC is not a recruiting program for the military our job our goal is to create better citizens in world leadership development program so the cadets come into class they are taught lessons on leadership and then they are sent to actively put those lessons into action so the first thing second thing is Hubbard High School has had a JROTC program for 40 years this is our 40th year doing it and we have had enormous success with the JROTC program there are cadets are first-rate if you take a look at our our Cadet program we are in the top three if not hire for the city of Chicago we have multiple teams that we were JROTC in Hubbard at so the program itself is Cadet lawn lead in Cadet Run next slide please activities include the Freshman drill team as well as a varsity troll drill team we have had seven of the last 10 years are freshman drill teams have been the city champions for the city Chicago we travel every year to our army competitions as well as national championships in Daytona Beach Florida and Virginia and our Cadets are among the best in the nation so I want to encourage you to be part of that program we do have other extra correct extracurricular activities including a military ball where is a formal dance we also have Team such as Raiders which is a fitness team and Outdoor Activity team we have the color guard we also participated archery and the drum and bugle Corps the other thing that's really important about JROTC is you do can receive credit for either health or physical education and we also meet the requirements for the community service education so you don't have to worry about that in addition to do in your high school so I encourage you to join the JROTC program we will be having a open house on December 3rd that is being put on completely by the cadets they want to do the program as part of their leadership development and so on December 3rd I will encourage you to let us know if you'd like to be part of that I will be happy to send you an rotation to that and you can ask the questions of the cadets themselves as to why they joined our program so I encourage you to come to Hubbard and look into the JROTC program thank you all right good morning to all my 8th graders and prospective parent Greyhounds like the commute to the Hubbard High School home of the Champions there are plenty in the history of the school that have reached different types of championships did the Championships a few state championships you have many sports that we offer there is a for boys there's volleyball soccer basketball swimming water polo baseball bowling cross country track that runs through indoor season in an outdoor season for girls there's volleyball and soccer basketball swimming water polo softball bowling badminton cross country and indoor and outdoor track and while some of the that would be traditionally for males or females there are there co-ed offering in the interest of equity so that's football 16in softball cheerleading songs which is Noel on this day in wrestling sports are offered throughout the year in the fall the winter and the spring okay we have many different levels from The Varsity level which is considered the highest level of competition a b sophomore and freshman levels I'm currently one of the football coaches at the school and we would love to have are males and females want to participate in football join the team just been one of those things if you come to the school and walk around you will see that there's a rich tradition in the football and in our football with our football team we have people that have gone gifts the students that have gone on and played highest levels in college and it made it to the pros we also have some also have some alarm 9 that I've made it in high levels of conflict in college and then pros and other sports as well I think courage you to choose Hubbard is one of the places where you can come to have a great educational experience and join a sport and also do some of the other things that we have some of the activities and clubs that are offered to you you'll get a full well-rounded education Hubbard High School old greyhounds good morning everyone I'm the resource coordinator at Hubbard High School and essentially what we do here and that we offer radio programs to you at the school to have Bachata we have chest in journalism clubs comic book clubs are anime clubs which actually last year they got to go to the Comic Con convention in Chicago so we took a bunch of our comic book club students and we went to a Comic Con convention we have science club we had an automotive club and the great thing about Hubbard is that if you don't see something on the list are you walking you spend first couple weeks looking for a place you want to fit in you don't see that club you know maybe you're interested in a different kind of sport or interest in a different kind of activity you can just get a group of friends and we will make that club for you that's one of the unique thing if you don't see something there you have the power and the support from our school to go ahead and do that club I'm in some of the some of her students are stupid dedicated in our teachers are super dedicated as well we have students who are in our Bachata program who want to pursue it professionally they want to become dancers they go to college and they do a dance in college because of that experience that they had in the after-school program we have students who are in the students working and technology and they also go on to do careers in technology because of the great programs throughout the school day and the after-school program that gets stuck on the disappointments room panoply example of students building their own club last year we had a student who plays Mariachi after school and he literally got four other people and he built his own Mariachi Club but doesn't Squadron and myself and they met on a regular basis and they were getting a lot of students involved and interested and fortunately stopped because of the pandemic but as soon as we get back to school we're going to pick her up where we left off so I encourage you to come to Hubbard and I'm not just saying this because I work here but this the teachers and the students who do participate in at school program at some of the most dedicated people that I've ever seen in my Amazon asthma in this profession so I hope to see you soon and if you have any questions we're here to support you okay hopefully this will be you and 2025 either some Sullivan I am the counseling department chair I just want to tell you the counseling department we have some excellent people in our department our job is to help you drive and Hubbard not just go along actually Thrive and enjoy your time there if there's anything happening to you that is stopping you from learning we want to help you overcome that we don't want to solve your problems for you but we want to teach you and give you the tools to help you we work closely with some outside organization for extra resources if you need that but also a we have for counselors and then we have a college and career coach that is strictly dedicated to helping you navigate the college system for filling out FAFSA applications are seminar classes are geared towards a college or career or trade experience so in the past we have had to Gates Millennium Scholarship questbridge scholar Posse scholarship winter scholarships full ride scholarships that is you go to college for free for 4. We have students attend search for universities of fuel by Northwestern Xavier Etc but most of all we want to have a thoughtful conversation with our students to help them think about their future are they would fit best so that is our job to help you program and to help you whatever you decide to choose what's right for you and your family we have many people some got jobs some went to for your universe but that is our job to be thoughtful and to help you choose your future thank you and there's three pass to Hubbard so now we are a neighborhood school and you can go on CPS died you School locator and find out if you are within our neighborhood guidelines if you are not in the neighborhood school if you are you have an automatic see the cupboard but if you're not and you want to come to Harbor because lots of people early do do you can apply through University Scholars switchmas brownswitch I sold all about IB program to and now the ROTC track so you have to go on go CPS and apply through the that way did application but you can go through ID University Scholars or JROTC okay thank you Ibuprofen Brown's isn't she can answer these questions better than I about the cut-offs are working with their counselors and sometimes they talk about a point system you can talk to your counselor about your points but a lot of time students asked me about cutoff Ivy were looking for students with A's and B's in their classes and good nwea score queso with a combination of all those things the same thing for University Scholars the little bit more leeway and as I said University Scholars can then choose to move to act or go to the CTE before a P-trap a JROTC looking for students with a 2.5 and at least 95% attendance or higher I encourage you to apply we always look at students we are really looking for students who are well-rounded that's what university Scholars sometimes students have straight A's in their classes but maybe they didn't do so well on the nwea test we still can accept you and will help you and support you your freshman year that's my email address you can also find it on our Hubbard High School website mr. tacos is the Freshman counselor next year and that is his email address since we are going a little bit over I thought we might stop and just answer any questions before we start the movie I know we gave you a lot of information so maybe you thought of something I don't want you to forget what your question was so if you have a specific question for one of us you want if you want to on Mike yourself or unmute yourself we can answer it or you could type it in the chat I know some of you will go ahead if you don't qualify for the IB program and then during the freshman Year my son is doing great he be able to qualify for the IB program for the sophomore year add some of my back. In regular classes I'm thinking of a student named wake up right now who after freshman year all his teachers brought him to me and said he's a stellar student and he was really interested in the IB program and he was able to join so we we kind of have open door policy with that and if it's a good match then the student can move into that program I would encourage you to have your child apply to both Ivy and universities dollars and go CPS and I think the deadline is December 11th so that someone to ask you about multiple programs good question so yes you could be IB student who takes JROTC so JROTC count as your physical education requirement you could be an IB student who you no end of taking band as a sophomore or are and then we'll be junior senior year to take the IB art which IB band is a little harder and chorus to take more than one year or two years but we have a lot of after-school options so a lot of our IB students also take like after school band and things any other questions Alejandro sold it depends on how it fits into your schedule sophomore year there's room take one of those elective classes and then a lot of students will continue either after school with the after-school band or as I said junior senior year they might continue with a visual art are there Fine Arts Sofia the question so everything is done on the computer these days so you basically apply go CPS has a record of yours 7th grade great so they're looking at your core subjects reading math social studies and Science and then they also have your nwe Ace course so I don't pick students and we don't really pick them the computer tells us that you are accepted that you have the qualifications yes you can make Harbor on your Top Choice as I know students have a lot of choices and some people you don't want to choose 20 schools well it's better to do some research and just choose the ones you're really interested in Colonel zimmerly do you want to answer the JROTC question I was just starting to type of fonts but I can answer verbally I'll be honest with you part of the JROTC program that handles the drum and bugle Corps that is a after-school program we work very closely with our our band director who actually manages the Drumline and so drum and bugle Corps and JROTC can work together we do work very closely with the band program cancel it really depends on the other classes that you got going on during the year we do make a lot of arrangements trying to make sure that if someone's in the JROTC program and they want to continue in the IB program we teach what they call zero. So that you can participate in both of those programs our goal is to get you what you want to do if that means you want to learn about Land Navigation shut off a Land Navigation praying for you so whatever you want to pursue we're going to do our best to make sure we get that I also encourage you on December 3rd to come and ask the students we have a number of students were going to be participating they're going to be Lee in that class and so any class question you might have about is this too much how can I make it work they're the experts in there so I'm going to encourage you to show up for that with regards to the uniform if you are in JROTC you are expected to wear uniform one day a week we provide the uniform for you we show you how to wear it and is expected as part of your grade back at the huge portion of your grade so we do want you to wear the uniform but it's one day a week and frankly everybody who puts on the uniform makes them act a little differently make some little bit more and it goes towards that idea of being part of a group when you wear a uniform you are part of an organization you are part of that family and part of that team so yeah we do wear uniform but it's once a week answered clarify general population we do not have a spa cific uniform where you have to wear let's say a red shirt and tan pants we want you to look like a young lady or young man but you don't have to wear specific colors to answer the other question with regards to the uniform you are issued the uniform which means you sign a piece of paper that says you'll take care of it we give it to you to wear during your time in the program and when you are done you just turn it back so there is no expense for the EU to have the unit in JROTC so we are just thinking about you know possibly applying to Harvard high school and being a part of Hubbard I just want to say that my son is a sophomore at Hubbard High School I'm very proud of that I love Hubbard Hubbard is home for me and have been home for me for 20 years and I have my school my staff all of my teachers the community that we have built at Hubbard have done for our student I used to be the IB coordinator at used to be in the Spanish department so and I wasn't a p and this is my 30 or principal at Hubbard for me when he chose Hubbard even though he was accepted to selective-enrollment school them in Alaska me and my son is in the IB program my son is an ROTC he is an archery he isn't country and he isn't student voice so everything is doable and just as kernels and release dated next year will be a junior he will continue in ROTC and he will be in the zero.
