Course Description
Advanced Algebra (a.k.a. Algebra II) is a pre-calculus course that stresses algebra skills. The purpose of this course is to prepare students for college and beyond by building the algebra skills that are required for calculus. Included in the course of study are real numbers, function and graphs, polynomials and rational functions, exponential and logarithmic functions, roots of polynomial equations, optimization, sequences and series, conic sections, systems of equations, and limits.
In Algebra II, you will learn to use new models and methods to think about problems as well as solve them. You will be developing powerful mathematical tools and learning new ways of thinking about and investigating situations. You will be making connections, discovering relationships, figuring out what strategies can be used to solve problems, and explaining your thinking. Learning to think in these ways and communicate about your thinking is useful in mathematical contexts, other subjects in school, and situations outside the classroom. The mathematics you have learned in the past will be valuable for learning in this course. That work, and what you learn in this course, will prepare you for future courses and many potential career paths.
Trigonometry, on the other hand, is a branch of mathematics that studies relationships involving lengths and angles of triangles. In addition to the basic trigonometric functions introduced in Geometry, we will also expand on the usages of sine, cosine, and tangent as well as explore the relationships with other trigonometry functions and how to apply them to the real world.
