Pt.2
The other requirement I have from you is your internal assessment where you are going to be required to create and perform your own science experiment from start to finish. You should be completing this throughout the summer and only one person can work on one type of question. So, if multiple people wanted to do the same question, I couldn't allow it. There are NO groups for this. This is an individual project. Once I approve your question you can begin your project.

Here is a Google sheet where you can put your question(s) that you are thinking about for your IA.

Reminder: This will be submitted to IB and used to evaluate you for your eligibility for your diploma or certificate. With the seniors this year they ONLY used these for their evaluation. So, you should consider this as important as the IB tests you take next year (if we take them).

If you have any questions, please let me know!
Alright everyone! We are almost done with this group 4 project! So here are the last parts of the group 4. It is long, but there is a lot of important information. Please take notes so when you turn in this project you have everything you need.
There are going to be a couple of things that we are doing this week. You will be submitting your introduction and the data that you have collected.

You will submit both things to this post. Make sure everyone's name are on the assignments.

To Do:
-Write a draft of your introduction (Due 4/24)
-Collect data for your country and put it in a Google sheet (Due 4/24)
Alright, here is a lecture that gives you the basis of the Group 4. You get to see the most awkward lecture EVER. Even more awkward than my 2nd period lectures when you all don't laugh at my jokes (actually, this might be very similar...).

Here are some points of clarification:
1. The country that you signed up for is the group that I am referring to in this lecture
2. We will all be working on one research question
3. We will all have one hypothesis
4. Each group will submit one lab report with the data of their country (in addition to the class data that we will work on later)

To do list:
1. You should have a country chosen by 4/13
2. You should download the data from: https://www.who.int/emergencies/diseases/novel-coronavirus-2019/situation-reports
(download the data from every Monday. For example: Jan. 20th, Jan. 27th, Feb. 3rd, etc...)
3. You must submit 3 possible research questions by 4/15 on the Google sheet attached (I have also attached a guide on where to find the research question section of the Google sheet)

You can see the example of an IA (which is going to be the same format as your Group 4). This example is not perfect so I have attached my scores and notes as well.
Hello Everyone!
I am posting this spreadsheet so you can sign up for a country for the group 4 project. You are going to sign up for one country. You can sign up BY YOURSELF or with a group. Your group can be between 2-4 people. NO MORE THAN 4 PEOPLE PER COUNTRY.

NO EXCEPTIONS

When you are choosing your groups you can sign up with any of the students from either class.

A WORD OF CAUTION: this project counts towards your IB diploma. These scores can be the deciding factor between getting the diploma and not. So, if you choose your friends MAKE SURE THEY ARE RESPONSIBLE.

I have chosen countries in a ratio that is indicative to their ratio in the world. The countries I have chosen also have an array of resources available to them as well as number of cases of COVID-19. This will be considered our experiment. So, for an experiment we have to have a question we are investigating. Think about questions you would like to investigate using the data from this website: https://www.who.int/emergencies/diseases/novel-coronavirus-2019/situation-reports

From this website you should download the data from every Monday. For example: Jan. 20th, Jan. 27th, Feb. 3rd, etc... This is where you will get the information about your country. You might also want to do research on your country to figure out where it is, what resources they have, number of hospitals, and their response to COVID-19 thus far.

I will have office hours on Monday from 1-3pm if you would like to chat with me. Just let me know and we can set something up. And, as always, if you have any questions please let me know!

To do list:
1. Pick a country
2. Sign up with your group on the Google sheet (1-4 people)
3. Research your country (GDP, number of people, number of hospitals, and their responses to COVID-19 thus far)
4. Think of a research question that you might want to investigate for this experiment
First, I made a Nearpod for the beginning of Natural selection. The audio did not overlay on the slide so you will just have to sit and listen to me talk (and listen to my dogs playing in the background... they have no respect for a person working from home).

I want you to remember that although these assignments are not going to be graded, this information is your responsibility to obtain because this information will be on your IB exams. I am going to go over some of this when we get back, but with how much time we are losing I am not sure how in depth we will be able to go over this.

Alrigh, so here are some notes!
So, there is s a simulation that you can do that shows natural selection. It does, however, require flash. If you are doing these assignments on your phone, you will not be able to access them, but if you're using a computer you might. These are fun and you might want to try them.

If you cannot access them, I have made my FIRST screencast that you can follow along with. You will be responsible for recording my data (if you do not do this on your own) and creating an explanation.

1.) Watch the video: Evolution of the Peppered Moth. This will provide context to the simulation that I am going to be showing (or you can do yourself).
2.) Go to the link http://peppermoths.weebly.com/ and see if you can try the simulation yourself. If you can't that's fine, just follow along in the video that I posted
3.) Watch the Pre Industrial Revolution Simulation video: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1fh4bjOMUtNTpaL-U2Z2ORBvWhnKINdGz/view (if you can hear me whisper to my dog 'can you stop...' when he won't stop scratching himself- you get a bit of comic relief).
4.) Copy down my data into a Google sheet so you can create graphs from them
5.) Watch the Post Industrial Revolution Simulation video and copy the data down to make a graph

Your responsibility here is two fold:
1.) You need to make a graph for the pre-industrial forest and post-industrial forest
2.) You then need to write a conclusion about the data you analyzed and answer the question: How did the industrial revolution cause the population of peppered moths to evolve?

We are going to be transitioning from genetics to evolution. This is a good explanation of how genetics informs evolution. You will need to watch the video and answer the questions.
